50KG Caviar, breaks Guinness Record for Atlantis – The Palm

Luxury US caviar company AmStur this New Year’s Eve broke the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest caviar tin. The 50kg serving of caviar was presented to guests at the resorts’ Gala Dinner and smashed the previous Guinness World Record for the world’s largest caviar tin, which was recorded in 2016, weighing in at 17kg.

The 50kg serving was presented to guests in a custom-made, diamond shaped caviar tin coined ‘Cleito’.

Alongside an official Guinness World Record adjudicator, who judged the attempt live from the New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner, over 5,000 lucky guests enjoyed taking part in this event.

Foundations for the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai held

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority & Chief Executive of Emirates Group, laid the foundations for the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai on Sunday.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed said, “The Pavilion will be an architectural marvel that all seven Emirates can rightly take pride in, both now at the ground-breaking stage, during Expo, and in legacy when it will become a lasting icon of our nation.”

It covers an area of more than 15,000 square meters; and is made up of four floors. The entire structure is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

FNC approves draft law on distribution of petroleum products

The Federal National Council (FNC) has approved a draft federal law on the distribution of petroleum products following amendment and introduction of a number of articles and provisions to implement them nationwide, including the free zones, and private investment areas, Wam reported today.

The FNC stressed that the draft law would protect national companies operating in trading of the petroleum products from the competition with unlicensed distributors of the petroleum products. It added that the draft law would also establish a federal database including all parties operating in the petroleum products’ trading sector, with a view to regulate the distribution through combating harmful practices on the national economy, public safety and environment.

Fines starting with Dh500,000 and imprisonment term will be slapped on offenders.

In case of repeated violation, the fine will be Dh5 million.

Two Emiratis win cars for good driving in Dubai

Two Emiratis on Sunday won two cars under the white points reward system for motorists who have not committed traffic violations for an entire year. Their names were drawn from a list of 2,000 “good” drivers and were picked out by Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed as part of the annual White Points campaign.

Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, and Chief Major General Mohammad Saif Al Zafeen attended the ceremony with Khalaf Al Habtoor, Head of Al Habtoor Group to honour the sponsors of the white points system and to participate in the draw where the prize given were two Hyundai cars.

UN air-lifts food & medical supplies to 31,000 Somalis

As the drought intensifies in south and north-eastern Somalia, the United Nations emergency food relief agency WFP- World Food Programme, today airlifted to Mogadishu enough high-energy biscuits to assist 31,000 people for three days, the UN News Centre reported.

The shipment, made on a Boeing 747 donated by the UPS Foundation from Dubai, also included medical assistance on behalf of the UN World Health Organisation, WHO.

“A rapid response is crucial to support drought-affected families across Somalia,” said WFP Representative and Director of Gulf Office Abdallah Alwardat. “This airlift is a great example of WFP and its partners coming together to reach those furthest behind with life-saving assistance.”
