The Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority released a report that states the population of UAE has crossed 9 million (9,121,167 of which 6,298,294 are men and 2,822,873 women) at the end of 2016. Previous estimates were based on calculations released by UN’s population division. The population nearly doubled in 8 years as the government reported a figure of 4.6 million in 2008.
This new report did not include the nationalities of the residents or the percentage of population they represent. Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Director General, FCSA, said there would be an annual update to the population from now.
