Dubai is all set for trial run of a greener, more fuel-efficient public transport bus. RTA announced that depending on the success, more such buses would be added to the fleet. The new VDL bus would consume upto 15% less fuel than existing buses. Apart from this, it is also much lighter at 9650 kgs compared to older buses which weigh 11,200 kgs. The seating capacity has been increased to 45 seats from 34 in the older models. The RTA will assess economic feasibility and environmental benefits of the operation during the trial. Mattar Al Tayer, head of RTA said the reduction in carbon emission rate, engine efficiency, and maintenance cost among other parameters also would be assessed.
